Introduction
A compact, green Baltic country with a baroque capital, a growing international community and a digital-first approach to public services. Lithuania is where our founder made their own move from South Africa — so it's the destination we know most personally.
Lithuania is a member of the EU and the Schengen Area. Short stays fall under the common Schengen rules; longer stays for non-EU citizens are governed by Lithuanian national residence rules.
The general journey
Non-EU visitors who need a visa apply for a Schengen short-stay visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Living in Lithuania beyond a short stay generally requires a national visa or a temporary residence permit, depending on your purpose — such as work, study or family. The Migration Department publishes the current requirements.
Once in Lithuania, residents typically need to declare their place of residence and arrange practical essentials such as banking, health insurance and accommodation.
This is general information, not a statement of current requirements. Always confirm with the official sources below.
